Brazilian-born and a vegan since age 17, Fernanda Capobianco moved to New York in 2009 to pursue her passion for healthy eating. Capobianco soon became an active board member of the New York Coalition of Healthy School Foods, a statewide non-profit organization, through which she helped deliver healthy meals to students of NYC public schools – a cause she is particularly passionate about since losing her father who had diabetes.
In 2010, Capobianco refocused her commitment to healthy eating with her own contribution to the food industry. As a result, she founded Vegan Divas, a premium line of vegan, animal-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie, organic, kosher and parve baked goods and desserts.
“It has been my dream to create gourmet pastries with the quality, taste and presentation similar to those offered by the best gourmet bakeries but as a healthier alternative,” Capobianco said.
The vegan baked goods became favorites of celebrities including Alicia Silverstone, Madonna and Mike Tyson and received top accolades from publications such as Time Out New York who featured the baked doughnut in their “Best of 2011” awards. In 2012, Capobianco opened the first brick-and-mortar Vegan Divas store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The Vegan Divas E-commerce website became referenced in vegan products, gifts and baked goods that are sold and shipped across the country.
Taking her passion further, Capobianco penned her first book, The Vegan Divas Cookbook, released October 8th, 2013. The cookbook shares more than 75 recipes for healthy, vegan eating, tips for creating a vegan kitchen and entertaining and decorating advice for creating perfect plates and beautiful baked goods.
