A recently released study from journal of PLOS (Public LIbrary of Science) Medicine has shown that weight training can reduce the development of type 2 diabetes in women.
Chelsea Alves reports in American Live Wire:
“Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the disease, previously known as adult-onset diabetes, characterized by high sugar levels in the blood.

It has already been discovered that cardio can lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, and previous studies have already discovered that muscle strengthening can improve conditions in people who already have diabetes.”
The study also reported that yoga and low intensity activities are effective as well if you are not into weight lifting or strength training.
